Ithaka S+R
The launch of ChatGPT has left institutions playing catch up to rapid technological changes that are now touching every area of higher education. As universities consider the impacts of generative AI on their communities, the need to assess how it will disrupt teaching, learning, and research and articulate when and how it can be integrated into educational and research contexts is clear. This fall, Ithaka S+R will convene a cohort of universities committed to making AI generative for higher education. Together, we will conduct up-to-the-minute landscape reviews and interviews with faculty from across disciplines, to surface areas for on-campus interventions and create new strategies, policies, and programs to ensure on-campus readiness to harness the technology in the longer term. This lightning talk will describe the project and its methodology in detail, and share early thoughts from Ithaka S+R about the immediate challenges universities will face in the coming academic year.
