The field of robotics provides many challenges for archives, libraries, and museums. In this session, we will introduce The Robotics Project at Carnegie Mellon University. This partnership between the University Libraries and the School of Computer Science explores the multimodal and interdisciplinary nature of robotics (which combines areas such as design, computer engineering, and artificial intelligence) and the social and technical infrastructure involved with building and stewarding complex science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) archives. The presentation will provide a project update, including insights gleaned from a laboratory field study, the development of a linked-data digital library prototype, and the preparation of a toolkit and conversation guide for working across this domain.
Funding for Phase 1 of the Robot Project was generously provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
