The NDSA Staffing Survey is designed to gain insight into current staffing realities for digital preservation programs. In August 2022, the NDSA published its third iteration of a Staffing Survey report, based on survey responses from 269 individuals worldwide engaged in digital preservation, ranging from practitioners with day-to-day digital preservation responsibilities to senior-level administrators/executives with oversight for digital preservation programs. Several key points emerged from the 2021 survey, such as how perceptions of digital preservation seemed to shift according to respondents’ roles within their organizations. Data comparison across the 2012, 2017, and 2021 surveys allows for the observation of some general trends, including around how well digital preservation is implemented at organizations. This project briefing will provide background information on the NDSA Staffing Survey and present key findings from the Staffing Survey Working Group co-chairs, Elizabeth England and Lauren Work.
