Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository (https://borealisdata.ca), is a bilingual, multi-disciplinary research data repository service for Canadian researchers. Borealis is a shared service provided in partnership with academic libraries, research institutions, and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, with infrastructure hosted and developed by the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL). Borealis is built on the open-source Dataverse repository software, with institutional collections managed locally by 65 institutional partners. Expanding use cases include academic journals, multi-institutional research projects, library curated open social science data, and more. Ongoing development projects include expanding support for big data upload and download, sensitive data, and file previewers. Collaboration and community-driven approaches encompass a national governance committee, expert groups, community meetings for institutional administrators, national training events, and plans for an institutional administrators survey in 2023.
