The Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) began in 2004 as a collaborative digital library by, from and for Caribbean libraries, archives, museums, and similar information organizations. dLOC grew steadily, defined by shared governance; decentralized collection building decisions; and commitments to preservation, access, and building and supporting the community of practice. Across times of uncertainty and adversity, the dLOC community continued to build the dream of a shared digital library and vibrant community. In 2021, dLOC released updated bylaws and the operations team at the University of Florida delivered the first fully new patron interface (mobile responsive, new features). As part of this, the team split the prior website (which provided information on governance, powered production, and served patrons) into three systems. In 2022, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded $2 million to dLOC, for a project to revitalize dLOC, including adding new services and supports to dLOC’s core for technologies. This presentation will share what dLOC is and what dLOC will be, with the community and capacity-building work taking place over the next four years to: refine a menu of sustainable technical assistance services, establish and maintain a Rights Advisory Network, create and enrich Open Educational Resources, and to build out resources for future growth and engagement.
