This session will address issues associated with developing digital content strategies for very large multi-topic, multi-format, multi-audience heterogeneous digital collections. Harvard Libraries, the Library of Congress, and the New York Public Library will compare and contrast the processes they use to develop strategies. This session is not intended to address repositories, metadata, or technical infrastructure, but rather how an institution decides what should be new, or added, to their digital content. The goal is to better understand one simple question (with an anticipated complicated answer): How do you decide what content to make available when you have considerable resources to draw from? While existing digital libraries are in scope, the larger goal is to focus on the conception and planning for the content before it is made available.
