Global temperatures are off the charts. Without immediate and drastic cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, the world is headed to at least 3°C warming over preindustrial temperatures. Climate change and the over extraction of earth’s resources will pose serious challenges to long-term digital preservation. If emissions do not significantly decrease, digital preservation will become a luxury as populations struggle for food, water, and political security. Rethinking our preservation practices and adapting for an uncertain future can help digital materials persist for future generations.
