Lightning Round
The Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship (HELIOS), a project emerging from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Science, is a cohort of 80+ institutions committed to collective action to advance open scholarship incentives. The Shared Open Scholarship Infrastructure working group of HELIOS is developing a “Guide for Shared Research Infrastructure Decision-Making” to provide key campus leaders, including chief information officers, chief strategy officers, university librarians, deans, vice presidents for research, provosts, and other key strategists a path for discussion and decision-making around scholarly infrastructure. It assumes that institutional strategies for scholarly infrastructure development—whether to buy, build, or partner—require the integrated perspective and partnership of key leaders across functional areas, and exploration of principles like sustainability, governance, and portability. The session will provide a brief overview and updates on the work and outcomes of HELIOS and a just-completed Cross-Sector HELIOS Summit (slated for December 5–6, 2022).
