The Duke University Libraries will report on a project to develop a new statement of our priorities and guiding principles related to data privacy. This project builds on a variety of precursors, from regulatory changes to technological advancements to conversations in the broader library community. The task force charged with this work included eight staff members from across divisions of the library, and the team spent many months curating and reviewing introductory material in various areas of data privacy before composing its final report. Our project briefing will reflect both on this team structure, which serves as a model process for cross-training and project sustainability, and also on the results of the task force, a public report containing actionable and approachable statements of the Duke University Libraries’ values regarding patron privacy and data retention.
