Economic Models
The current technological environment provides opportunities to rethink how information is disseminated and how it is supported. The commercial publishing sector, as well as scholarly societies, university presses, and other non-profit publishers, are interested in understanding new business models. Some key issues include the relationship of print and electronic versions of publications, pricing models, open access, and the willingness of both producers of information and buyers to experiment with new models. Some current work involves licensing models for e-books and content on mobile devices. CNI was one of the first venues in which the economic issues related to licensing of e-journals was explored, and we continue to be involved in progress in this arena.
